Food

This page is divided into two sections - middle weight camping food and light weight food

Middle Weight Camping Food

Breakfast - many options can be taken. Favourites include pancakes (good but messy and take awhile), eggs and sausages. Cereal can be used. If you want to take milk it can be stored by tying it to a tree then throwing into a river as this keeps it quite cold.
Lunch - this usually is just sandwiches but may be cooked but as you are often doing things during the day this can be inconvenient.
Tea - my favourite! Start at 5pm and go to 10pm if you like. Anything imaganable can be cooked. (Except maybe pizza). Stews, damper, marshmellows etc. Be creative!

Light Weight Camping Food

Breakfast - I use Sanitarium Granola with fruity bix bar buds for flavouring. This is light and a very good start to the day. The only drawback is it requires cooking.
Lunch - Pita Bread is light moist and doesn't break easily. Fill with cheese, nutella or jam (take in small quantities). Drawbacks - Pita bread goes moldy quickly.
Tea - In recent there has been a number of instant pastas, rices and couscous come out on the market. This move has been heralded by hikers across the country as one of the thing done in along time for the name of camping. I still don't mind mixing up so noodles and dehydrated peas, carrot, a bit of deb (dehydrated mashed potato) and TVP to make a stew.
Nibbles - To keep energy on the go to things are essential, salt and sugar. The best way to get this is in muesli bars, lollies and salted peanuts (don't too many - they make you thirsty!).
